Despite the Cold, Life Blossoms

Hello. It is Bel here. Today we had the second ultrasound of Baby Belnor. For those of you who may find looking at ultrasound pictures difficult-the face is on the right. Baby Belnor is healthy, has a good heart rate, organs and skeleton are developing normally. I believe Nor's highlight of the visit to the doctor was witnessing Baby Belnor's yawn. It was the few moments during the exam that the child exhibited human behavior. Despite all the chaos going on in the world, Baby Belnor is resting quietly.

For the most part that is. February 16th, the 1st birthday of Keelan our nephew, marked the first time I felt Baby Belnor move. It did feel like nervous butterflies but it also felt like a hand moving very slowly underwater. Every time Nor enters the room, the baby stops moving. I tell him it is nothing personal...

Saskatoon is currently under a severe winter storm watch warning. Suppose to receive 10 to 20 cm of snow and no visibility-much like the storm we had last month. Still do not have any room for the excess snow in our yard-not sure where to shovel the walkways. Despite this (hopefully) last winter storm, my Christmas Cactus bloomed for the first time!!! The previous home owners left the plant behind and I have been nurturing it and finally it brings forth new blossoms.

I see Nor has shared his thoughts on Fatherhood-I am sure he will make a good father. He has been quite supportive of me during this pregnancy-having quite a few aches and pains, of which hurting myself during our company's ski trip did not help. Nor has pitched in with cooking (he is very good), housekeeping, and on top of all this-completed his thesis! I am very proud. We now wait for a defence date....

My own thoughts on Motherhood: It has been said that pregnancy brings a sense of empowerment- I would have to say that is true. I am more in tune with my body, mind and soul. A sense of renewed confidence also comes with the territory. I also feel very protective of Baby Belnor. For those who think I am nesting-well not quite. I enjoy fresh bake goods all year but especially during the cold winter months. Mom and Dad sent me some chocolate that tastes good in peanut butter cookies. Fruit smoothies remind me of summer days. Yearning for those warmer days with sun, greenery, and fresh night breezes.

This weekend marks my birthday-35! Feel better than ever, quite enjoying my thirties. Got a new hair style-still trying to figure out how to style it. Getting a manicure. For those women who are not looking forward to 30 or being in your thirties, were your twenties really that good?

I hope everyone takes some time for themselves. Four more weeks until spring!

Toodles,
Bel

what a great post, Bel!:)))
keep this up and you'll have the entire archy dept. and wes. her. sobbing daily;-)
i especially enjoyed your description of what it feels like to have an alien object, er, i mean, a baby move inside you.
as to your question. no. appart from firmer thighs, the 20s are happily stored away.
Nor, you should come up to other expecting fathers and say "my kid yawns. what does yours do?"

20s seem OK to me but I suppose that is because I don't know any better :) Happy early bday anyway (Looking forward to tomorrow!)

Great post Bel. And thanks for the 20s versus 30s thing! Maybe that is why we hold on to our twenties-always wanting them to be better than they actually are or were when really we should just be looking forward be our 30s and being happy.
